24th Annual Jazz’SAlive to feature all-star lineup
With a diverse line-up that includes Latin, straight ahead, fusion, and smooth jazz, along with regional newcomers and San Antonio’s local jazz favorites, the 24th annual Jazz'SAlive festival aims to please everyone. Jazz’SAlive, co-sponsored by the San Antonio Parks Foundation, the City of San Antonio’s Downtown Operations Department & the Parks and Recreation Department, will be held in Travis Park on Saturday and Sunday, September 22 and 23. Admission to Jazz'SAlive is free.
Saturday, September 22, the Bud Light Stage will ignite with Latin jazz great Arturo Sandoval, and vocalist Jane Monheit. Arturo Sandoval, the world-renowned Latin jazz musician, composer, trumpet player and pianist, has earned 4 Grammy Awards, 6 Billboard Awards and an Emmy Award. Jane Monheit, a sophisticated performer whose voice has been described as flawless, has garnered well-earned comparisons to such female icons as Ella Fitzgerald and Barbra Streisand. The opening act for Sandoval and Monheit is Henry Brun & The Latin Playerz Orchestra, featuring vocalist Judi DeLeon.
On Sunday, September 23, the Bud Light Stage will come alive with Chuck Mangione and The Rippingtons. Chuck Mangione is a flugelhorn player and composer who achieved international success with his 1978 jazz-pop single, "Feels So Good". The Rippingtons, having just celebrated their 20th anniversary, are currently one of the hottest jazz fusion groups on tour.
“We are really excited to be able to present such a wide variety of national recording jazz artists during Jazz'SAlive”, said Lila Cockrell, President of the San Antonio Parks Foundation. “The mix of jazz also adds a fun, affordable reason to bring the whole family out for a weekend of live music and culture”.
