City gears up for Texas-sized festival
Celebrate San Antonio

The San Antonio Parks Foundation is pleased to once again announce details of the New Year’s Eve spectacular, Celebrate San Antonio.  “The Parks Foundation, along with City departments and staff, works hard all year long in order to get ready for this exciting festival.  We are proud to be able to offer a safe, fun, family event to the citizens of San Antonio as well as visitors to our beautiful city,” says Teresa Keck, Vice President, Special Events for the Parks Foundation.  KENS-TV5 is the presenting sponsor of Celebrate San Antonio.   Allen Lansing, KENS Director of Creative Services, says “KENS 5 is committed to this community, and partnering with the Parks Foundation and the City of San Antonio on this exciting event is our way of fulfilling that commitment.”

Celebrate San Antonio, the largest free New Year’s Eve festival in the state of Texas, continues to draw a quarter of a million excited revelers downtown for a spectacular 17 minute fireworks show, great San Antonio cuisine, games and rides, and entertainment for the entire family.  And the free event features something for everyone!  Whether you are a fan of Tejano, Norteno, Rock, old school hits, or oldies, Celebrate San Antonio offers it all.
The huge downtown fiesta begins at 6 p.m. on S. Alamo Street between Market and Durango and throughout historic La Villita.  The New Year will officially roll in with a bang at midnight as the Tower of Americas is showcased by the spectacular Valero Corner Stores Fireworks Extravaganza.

Urban 15’s Carnaval de San Anto will open the festivities in front of the Budweiser Main Stage, which will be located in front of the entrance to HemisFair Park and will feature old school hits from Soul Struck Movement, Salsa variety with Judi Deleon, Rebecca Valadez and The Latin Connection, and classic rock-n-roll favorites with Ice Nine.

Those “oldies but goodies” will be featured at the Rio San Antonio Cruises stage located at the intersection of Alamo and Market, featuring Danny Acosta & QVO, and Altered Natives.
Event revelers can kick up their heels along with Pochimex and Banderas in La Villita’s Maverick Plaza International Stage.  Norteno fans can dance their way into the New Year with Xtremo 4, and Los De La Cumbia at the AT&T Mexican Regional Stage, sponsored by La Ley 95.7 FM and Norteno 720 near the intersection of Durango and Alamo.

A wide variety of entertainment for the entire family will appear on the H-E-B Family Stage at the Arneson River Theatre.  The H-E-B children’s area on Villita Street will feature carnival games and rides.  “Families wanting to ring in the new year need to look no further than Celebrate San Antonio.  Thanks to H-E-B we can offer children of all ages games, rides, and wholesome family entertainment,” said Lila Cockrell, President of the San Antonio Parks Foundation.  Also available will be more than 50 food and beverage booths.
